Details   Winged Thing Amber Butterfly Pendant No. 7 is a dazzling & whimsical creature created out of slices of golden yellow, lemon & cognac Baltic amber with a touch of butterscotch at the head. Polished to perfection & built around amber beads. Filled with mysterious inclusions, the upper wings are contain translucent golden amber filled with drifts of mat (lighter) color, indicating a high concentration of succinic acid- the biochemical signature of amber that makes it amber- a substance that has never been recreated in a labortatory. The lower wings are edged with a high contrast band of rough amber- the outer skin, also called amber bark, or the cortex, roughened by the sea. These tend to become signature pieces for the wearer. Winged Thing is slightly "floppy" or soft. Contains zero metal. Allows amber to rest directly upon the skin- amber, unlike glass or other gemstones such as turquoise, is warm to the touch.
