Andzia's Heartfelt Double Sided Amber Heart Locket is a shapely hinged design which uses two beautiful amber hearts for both the face & the reverse of the locket, all wrapped up in bright sterling silver.
Wonderfully
contemporary & a touch sentimental. Traditionally lockets are a
romantic gift, sometimes used as gifts for those separated by
distance--whether by daily routine or distance. This artful design enhances the play of light through the gemstone. Intense, rich cognac colored amber containing fossil inclusions... the color seems even darker when the locket is closed. Clever construction also allows the famous warmth of amber rather than cool sterling silver to rest against the skin. We find this locket just a bit mysterious in cognac--you may get a little hint of whatever object you may choose to tuck inside, but can't see it entirely.
Historically speaking, lockets were sometimes worn as a talisman-- holding a tiny object meant to give the wearer extraordinary powers. Or it can be worn as a miniature shrine, holding an image of a saint or Divine One. In the Middle Ages the idea of a shrine worn as a locket was used by virtually all pilgrims to and from visits to cities held expecially spiritually dear to them. Since the pilgrims were constantly traveling, their lockets were used as icons--they could easily stop by the side of the road and commence their devotions, simply by gazing at the image in the opened locket held in their hands.
To open, insert your thumbnail into the slight indention along the side opposite the hinge & press relatively hard. Once you get the trick, you'll appreciate how secure the closure is, as one would tend to place a tiny but treasured object inside, something you would never want to lose, like a baby tooth, photo or lock of hair. Do not place objects inside that will scratch the amber. Once clicked shut, your treasure is completyely secure.
